Don't Plan for 2025!
Video
Oftentimes we wanna jump into planning our 2025 and this is what I'm here to talk about today.
Hey everyone, this is Kathryn and it's December 30th and we're getting ready for the new year to come. We are at our family cottage and, as you can see, I’m not in my home office. We’re spending time with family and friends here, but while we are gathered waiting for festivities, I took some time and started thinking about what entrepreneurs do at this time of year, including me. Oftentimes, we want to jump into planning our 2025, or whatever the upcoming year is, and this is what I’m here to talk about today.
What I did was say, wait a minute, let’s review 2024 before jumping into planning 2025. Even "planting 2025" is a good term because we’re setting the seeds for what’s coming in the year ahead.
But in order to help us decide what is best to plant for the next year, it’s helpful to know what we harvested and what didn’t work in the previous year. So I suggest that you do something like I did.
I have a communications log where I keep track of lots of clients on different business ventures and personal things throughout the year. I went through that log and then opened my Google Calendar. I started in January and looked at everything that happened throughout the year—not just in my business, but also family things, travel, issues that came up, and projects we took on.
It’s very helpful before deciding what seeds to plant for the next year to think about those things. For example, one of our projects was putting in new floors in our home. That needs to be considered when planning.
Planning for life within your entrepreneurial plan helps you reduce the stress and give yourself more fully to the project at hand... be it work, play or life.
So if you have any big projects, great trips, or family events like weddings, be sure to plug those into your calendar and entrepreneurial thinking. The title of this is "Don’t Plan for 2025 Yet."
The "yet" is based on the idea that until you review where you’ve been, what was important to you, and what you want to make time for in the next year, you’re not ready to start planting for your business in the coming year.
I’ve got a yard guy out there sprucing up the yard and clearing leaves for the holidays, so if you hear that, I apologize for the extra noise. Anyway, this is just a simple greeting and something good to consider as you move forward with your entrepreneurial plan for 2025 like I did.
Let’s put our personal lives—those big rocks, the things that are most important to us—into our planning, not just our business. Sometimes, we frustrate ourselves when our business takes up all of our time and we don’t leave room for those important events that are coming up in 2025. It’s not just about business; it’s about our business supporting our life and our life supporting our business.
Thank you, entrepreneurs. I hope you had a very Merry Christmas 🎄, and I hope your New Year 🎉 is bright. I look forward to our connection in 2025. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Loads of love,
Kathryn
